Current Favorites – Drugstore Powder Highlighters

Posted by

I hate to admit it, but it took me a loonngg time to get on the dewy skin/highlighter bandwagon. Trust me, I have learned the error of my ways – I love the way my makeup looks more than ever now that I have embraced the glow! Most days my makeup is a simple, glowy look focusing on great skin – so I like the way a less intense highlight looks. I am not really into the intense, wet looking highlighters and I don’t need UFOs to see my cheekbones in outer space. I like highlighters with a more subtle glow and they must be invisible when I’m looking head-on. I don’t like big, chunky glitter but I’m okay with smaller sparkles. For a reference point – my most used highlighter is Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light … subtle as hell … and technically not a highlighter but it’s lovely and natural. My favorite drugstore highlighters are moderately glowy, kind of sparkly, and suitable for fair skin.

Essence – Pure Nude Highlighter – Be My Highlight
– nude base with very fine silver and gold shimmer
– most subtle of the bunch
– gives a beautiful no-highlighter highlighter look

Colourpop –Super Shock Cheek – Hippo
– icy lavender base with very fine pearlescent pink/purple/silver/gold shimmer
– lavender is pretty subtle, mostly looks like pearlescent glow
– looks great as complement to an orange eye look

Wet n Wild – Megaglo Highlighting Powder- Precious Petals
– gold base with very fine pink and gold shimmer
– shimmer is extremely subtle, mostly looks like a sheen on the skin
– all of the Megaglo Highlighters are gorgeous (except the blueish one – it’s not my jam)

J. Cat Beauty – You Glow Girl Baked Highlighter – Bella Rose
– cool pink base with pink shimmer
– most intense of the bunch
– a great way to amp up a look with a neutral eye
